River Road reopens

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A ribbon cutting this morning marked the official reopening of River Road in Wilmington. The road has been closed since September 8.

Folks gathered to get a look at the roadway, which features bicycle and walking paths alongside the road.

Vice President of Operations for Newland Real Estate Livian Jones said she is excited for people to finally be able to see what they have been working on for the last several months. Jones said that they have worked very hard to stay on schedule regardless of rain and other weather delays.

Jones said that Marina Village will hopefully be open by next fall. Marina Village will consist of a restaurant on the marina, boardwalk, four parks, and even a place with a stage to hold concerts and cultural events on.

The conventional neighborhood for RiverLights will be about 2,400 to 2,500 homes. 540 single family homes will be a part of a 55-plus community within the project. The builders will be announced in February according to Jones. Construction is set to begin in the spring with completion scheduled for the end of the summer.
