Road work on US 74/76 in Brunswick Co. to begin Monday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) – The NC Department of Transportation announced on Friday that drivers on U.S. 74/76, eight miles east of the Columbus County line, should be ready for intermittent lane closures next week.

The closures will take place between 6:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., Sunday through Friday, from Monday until Dec. 16.

A construction crew will be widening the road, repaving an area between I-140 and Pineland Road, and installing “rumble strips”, which let drivers know if they have unintentionally left the roadway.

In a press release, the NC DOT said that the work will improve traction and safety, as well as upgrade the road to Interstate standards.

No detours will be required. However, the release stated, motorists are advised to drive carefully and expect delays.
