Runway landing aborted before High Point crash
HIGH POINT, NC (AP) — The National Transportation Safety Board
says a pilot missed an initial attempt to land at a Greensboro
airport just before the plane went into a house in High Point last
month.
The March 30 crash killed the pilot, Marcia Salmons-Keaton of
Fuquay-Varina, and passenger Dr. Thomas Littlejohn III of
Winston-Salem.
NTSB officials say the plane first hit some woods about two
miles from the runway and left a path of wreckage for 600 feet
before hitting the home. The three people in the house escaped
safely.
The cause of the crash has not been determined, but the NTSB
says conditions were foggy and visibility was only a quarter mile.
The report said the pilot chose to divert to Greensboro from the
original destination of Winston-Salem.
