Safety awards handed out to more than 100 NC businesses

Tuesday night, more than 100 businesses were awarded for being safe workplaces. North Carolina Labor Commissioner Cherie Berry attended the 34th Annual Safety Awards banquet.

The businesses were awarded for outstanding injury and illness rates over the past year. Some have made the list year after year.

Commissioner Berry said it is because of businesses like these that right now is the lowest injury and illness rate in the state’s history. “It’s real important for me to be able to come and visit with them and talk to them about their programs and have them exchange their ideas with us and the Department of lLbor with them to really honor them and recognize them for the work that they do,” she said.

The Department of Labor, the Greater Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, and local businesses sponsored Tuesday night’s banquet.
