Saffo wants to stay mayor

WILMINGTON — Bill Saffo wants to keep his job as Wilmington’s mayor. He made it official Friday.

The mayor of Wilmington says he’s in. He filed his candidacy for mayor Friday.
Mayor Saffo was greeted by a crowd of cheering supporters outside the board of elections.

He says repairing the sewers and bringing good paying jobs to Wilmington are his top two priorities.

Saffo is going for a second term as the mayor. He says pushing initiatives forward is why he wants to keep his job.

Saffo said, “I think that it’s important as a person who has lived here all his life to continue to move the community forward. I think it’s very important for our citizens because at the end of the day we can debate the issues but at the end of the day the community wants us to move the initiatives forward.”

Saffo’s annual salary is about $13,000. He’s says he’s obviously not in the race for money but to make a difference in the Wilmington community.

This is Saffo’s first bid for mayor. He was appointed mayor a year ago when Mayor Spence Broadhurst resigned.

Mayor Saffo was elected to the City Council in 2003.
