Same color, but Wilmington’s Pink Trash gets a new owner
WILMINGTON, NC (StarNews) — Pink trash cans have been a fixture in the Wilmington area — including Brunswick, Pender and Onslow counties — for years. Those pink cans will remain, at least for the foreseeable future, even while the company they represent no longer exists as a distinct entity.
Raleigh-based Waste Industries bought Wilmington-based Pink Trash in a deal effective March 1. Financial details of the transaction were not available.
Jim Mitchener, marketing manager for Waste Industries, said all Pink Trash employees were offered employment with his company, contingent on background and safety checks.
Rumors of mass firings “are absolutely not correct,” he said. “The Pink Trash team is still on board, and everyone who was there was offered positions within the larger entity. (Firing existing employees) is never how we handle things following acquisitions. These people know all the routes, they know all the customers. We always lean on the professionalism of the existing entities and employees. In fact, we shop around (for acquisitions) based on cultural fits and on people who are committed to doing the job the right way.”
