SC mother shot by 3-year-old faces neglect and drug charges

GAFFNEY, S.C. (AP) — A mother who says she was shot in the mouth by her 3-year-old son while she slept has been charged with child neglect and simple possession of marijuana.

Authorities say 27-year-old Sadie Davidson faces the neglect charge because the child was not properly supervised when he found the gun in a drawer and fired it Sunday afternoon.

Davidson was not seriously injured.

Cherokee County Chief Deputy Joel Hill says the investigation has determined the child was able to pull the trigger, but deputies would follow up if new information became available.

Authorities say Davidson’s boyfriend was in the Gaffney apartment at the time of the shooting and was charged earlier this week with simple possession of marijuana.
