Scholarship honors UNCW grad killed in fire

The family of a UNCW graduate killed in an apartment fire last month have started a scholarship in her honor. Rory Michaelson graduated in December with a degree in special education. She was supposed to start her teaching career this month.

A merit scholarship in her honor will help students who plan to major in special ed. Michaelson’s mother hopes to endow the scholarship to make it a permanent tribute to her daughter and a way to help future UNCW students who want to be teachers.
