School bus, tractor-trailer collide in Sumter County

SUMTER, SC (AP) — The S.C. Highway Patrol says there’s been a traffic accident involving Sumter School District bus and a tractor-trailer.

Local media outlets report the patrol said the accident occurred around 5 p.m. Thursday on U.S. Highway 521 near Rembert.

Sumter School District spokeswoman Shelly Galloway said the bus was rear ended by the tractor-trailer, causing the bus to overturn.

Galloway and law enforcement officers said the driver and three students from Crestwood High School were on the bus at the time, and all were taken by emergency personnel to a local hospital as a precaution.

Galloway said no major injuries were reported.

An investigation of the accident is underway.
