School host career fair and honors Black History Month
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Castle Hayne Elementary hosted their first career day highlighting African-Americans in our community for Black History Month.
WWAY’s Amanda Fitzpatrick was there and said she was lucky enough to talk to more than a dozen classes.
Social Worker Candy Robbins put together this years career fair and said she wanted students to realize there are a lot of community leaders from all nationalities.
Students learned about careers in radio and also heard from judges, law enforcement and bankers. Everyone spoke to students about setting goals and dreaming big.
“It’s never to young to start thinking about your career. We want to make sure that students understand what you have to put into it because you put into it what you expect to get out of it,” Robbins said.
Robbins said all students can do anything they set their minds to and she hopes the career fair next year will be even bigger.
