School lunches raised twenty cents in New Hanover
Parents in New Hanover County will have to start sending their children to school with a little more lunch money.
This fall, students in all grades will see a price increase in the cafeteria.
This week the New Hanover County School Board approved the price increase from $1.80 to $2.00 per lunch.
Officials said they’re trying to just break even, as food and operational costs go up.
“We do try to keep it affordable. Our mission has always been to have an attractive, nutritious meals and a friendly environment. I think we are keeping that promise but there are things we are just going to have to increase,” said NHC Director of Child Nutrition Imer Smith.
Students will also see a five cent increase for breakfast, from $1.20 to $1.25.
