School stadium light poles recalled

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — For the second time in less than a year, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a warning about light poles used at many school stadiums around the country, including in our area. This time the CPSC has ordered a recall of the poles, which are at stadiums at Ashley, Laney, North Brunswick and James Kenan high schools. The recall says the poles could fracture, crack or fall over causing serious injury or death.

Engineers inspected the polls at Ashley and Laney last fall and found them to be safe. They’ll be checked again later this year to see if there are any problems.

North Brunswick’s athletic director told us he did not know about the recall until we called.
