Seahawk statue finds a home at UNCW
The campus of UNCW looks a little different today after a giant copper seahawk landed at Hoggard Circle.
The statue weighs 2,000 pounds and has a 20-foot wingspan.
It took nearly a year for Wilmington metal sculptor Dumay Gorham to complete his work of art.
Crowds gathered at the center of campus to welcome the bird with open arms.
“We are so excited to have it land here on campus today,” said Chacellor DePaolo.
Irwin ‘Ike’ Belk of Charlotte donated funds for the sculpture.
