Due to the winter storm several local athletic events had to be switched from this week to next week. We've updated the posted changes for high school and college hoops.
Duke & North Carolina both appear to be back on track in men's basketball, but that's not the case for Buzz Peterson's UNCW squad. The Seahawks squandered a 13 point halftime lead on Saturday. The losing skid for UNCW is now nine losses in a row. A handful of local high school squads played games on Saturday afternoon. Plus the season is now underway for the Wilmington Sea Dawgs!
Friday's Full Court Press featured basketball action from Brunswick County, New Hanover County, Columbus County, Onslow County and Pender County. We also took an in-depth look at Monday's MLK Jamfest that will be held in Sampson County. Our play of the week on Friday night turned out to be a buzzer beater from an area player whose yet to reach high school.
Whiteville High swept South Columbus on Monday in high school hoops. We had highlights from both games on WWAY. Brett Blizzard continues to scorch the nets in Italy. Blizzard pumped in 18 in his team's victory over the weekend. UNCW continues to slide in the national RPI rankings in basketball for both men and women. Plus more!
New Hanover graduate Kadeem Allen continues to tear it up on the junior college level. The future Arizona Wildcat scored 41 points on Wednesday to lead Hutchinson to yet another victory. The UNCW men's basketball team drops to 0-2 in the CAA after an overtime loss on the road against Northeastern. UNC is off to an 0-2 start in the ACC after a loss on Wednesday to Miami. Plus more!

Former New Hanover County Commissioner Donald Blake died Monday. He was 89.
According to his obituary, Blake died peacefully at Lower Cape Fear Hospice Care Center.
The third Full Court Press of the season is in the books. On Friday the boys basketball team at Pender knocked off Laney. We had highlights and postgame reaction from Burgaw. We also showcased Whiteville-East Bladen, Ashley-Hillside and West Bladen-Wallace-Rose Hill on Friday's Full Court Press.
On Thursday we checked out three different college games. The Brunswick CC men beat Harford. Cape Fear CC lost to Wallace State and the UNCW women lost to Liberty in front of a record crowd at Trask Coliseum. We also had high school action involving Topsail, Trask, Union and West Brunswick. On Thursday night on WWAY we provided an extensive profile on the state champion Topsail High cheerleaders. They recently captured the state title in Raleigh.
