Search committee formed to find new UNCW Athletics Director

WILMINGTON, NC (NEWS RELEASE) – The University of North Carolina Wilmington today announced a 10-person search committee to screen and interview candidates for the position of Athletics Director.

Bill Carr, Carr Sports Associates, Inc. has been selected to assist in the search and selection process. One of the premier executive search and consultant firms in intercollegiate athletics, Carr Sports Associates, Inc. has worked with colleges and universities in North Carolina and with numerous institutions in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA).

Members of the search committee include:

David Swain, Board of Trustees (Chair)

Dr. John Morrison, Chair, Athletics Council

Dr. Sue Combs, Faculty Athletics Representative

Jenny Garrity, Head Women’s Tennis Coach

Mark Scalf, Head Baseball Coach

Chris Glendenning, Board of Visitors and Seahawk Club

Jim Ballantine, Seahawk Club

Jason Wheeler, Alumni Board

Wendell Murphy, Community Representative

Margaret Weller-Stargell, Community Representative

“I have asked this committee and the firm to conduct a thorough national search to find the right person to lead our athletics department,” said Chancellor Rosemary DePaolo. She also expressed how thrilled she was that David Swain agreed to lead the search effort to find a new Athletics Director. “David brings immense integrity, thoughtfulness, and attention to detail to the search process. He will be working with a recognized and experienced search consultant and a stellar committee to identify the right person to be our athletics director. I want to thank all members of the committee for agreeing to help with this important search.”
