Searchers find boy missing after hike in state park
ALBEMARLE, N.C. (AP) — An autistic boy missing about a day in Morrow Mountain State Park has been located and officials say he is safe.
State parks spokesman Charlie Peek says 13-year-old Kyle Whittman of Oakboro was found about 3 p.m. on a county road that dead ends at park property. Officials say Kyle was checked by
medical personnel and was in good shape.
More than 100 searchers looked for the boy along horse trails in a section of the 5,000-acre park about 50 miles northeast of Charlotte.
Peek says the boy went missing Sunday afternoon during a hike with his father.
The search effort included tracking dogs and searchers on foot and all terrain vehicles.
