Second Earn-A-Bike giveaway for underprivileged youth
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It’s like riding a bike; you’ll never forget.
The organization ‘A Bike for Every Child‘ held their second earn-a-bike giveaway at the Brigade boys and girls club.
Their goal is to give more than 125 bicycles and new helmets to underprivileged kids in this area.
Children picked out new bikes and learned how to take care of them.
Founder Kelly Cascaden says she has seen a lot of growth since this event last year and loves giving bikes away.
“The only issue they had with these kids getting bikes is they didn’t have a bike rack so the hallways were getting filled with all their new bikes. So, to hear that was amazing cause the kids are actually now riding their bikes to the club instead of getting dropped off by the bus,” Cascaden said.
The goal is to instill a sense of pride in owning a new bicycle while educating these kids on how to ride safely.
Cascaden says this couldn’t be possible without the community.
“It’s just been such an awesome experience to see really just how generous our community has been. I mean, this event today wouldn’t have been possible without the community’s support,” said Cascaden.
According to ‘A Bike for Every Child’, in the past year they have given more than 450 bikes and are aiming to give more than 1000 bikes in 2017 to other youth organizations.
