Senator Hagan to tour old Nesbitt Court and Shallotte intersection

Once the Azalea Festival is over, it will be back to business for our elected officials. Senator Kay Hagan will be in town on Monday to tour the old Nesbitt Court Housing Facility.

Senator Hagan will survey the Wilmington property, which closed in 2007. It’s one of the “shovel ready” projects, impacted by the stimulus bill.

A portion of the $3.6 million will go toward demolishing the current buildings, which will pave the way for rebuilding the site. “Something that’s quite frankly been an eyesore for a while that people complain about on a regular basis that we can finally do something with…how wonderful,” said Bo Dean of the Wilmington Housing Authority.

This project, and others like it, will create thousands of jobs across the state. Nesbitt Court is the oldest housing authority in North Carolina.

Also on Hagan’s tour is a shovel ready intersection in Shallotte. The Brunswick County intersection, located at Main Street and Shallotte Crossing Parkway, will be improved and expanded with stimulus money. It’s one of two road improvement projects in our viewing area affected by the president’s stimulus package. Those projects will get a combined 30 million dollars.
