Seniors use video games for exercise
WILMINGTON — For some local seniors, video games and exercise go hand-in-hand. The retirement home owners of the Woods at Holly Tree bought the popular Nintendo Wii gaming system for their residents as part of a pilot program.
Since Christmas, the popularity of the Wii, and the competition, has taken off.
The gamers say it’s a great way to get active, which is a challenge for some seniors.
Some residents of the Woods at Holly Tree who enjoy the game have had hip replacements and knee surgeries.
Nita Mihley said, “Oh, I love it! It’s a real fun game it’s good exercise. We get up a good group.”
Donna Miller said, “It’s fun. It gets people together. And if I could steal it and bring it up to my apartment I would.”
The Woods at Holly Tree will soon be getting more controllers so their residents can form teams.
