Septic tanks offer sewer moratorium alternative
WILMINGTON — You may be able to work around the sewer hook-up moratorium in New Hanover County.
This week the state announced the ban on new buildings linking to the northeast interceptor.
That has some people looking for alternatives to the city sewer line.
One alternative is septic tanks.
Septic systems will only work if you have enough land to hold the tank and to be far enough from your well.
The systems can be used for both homes and businesses.
Michelle Inman from Inman Septic Tank Service says, “we have done commercial properties before and they base it on the number of employees that is there that determines the size of the septic tanks that are used.”
City, county and state leaders met yesterday to discuss the moratorium and the possibility of lifting it.
There are no decisions to report yet.
