Serves and spikes abound at Smiles for Sarah volleyball fundraiser

Saturday was the second annual event for Smiles for Sarah, a volleyball tournament and fundraiser in honor of 12-year-old Sarah Mairs.

Sarah was diagnosed with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis at a young age.

Captain Bill’s hosted the event.

“She’s had JRA since she was 18-months-old. She had a bout with lymphoma and she beat it, and she’s a very big inspiration to a lot of people and has a big following,” said Peter Mairs who organized the event.

“I feel really good and happy about it. I’m thankful that everyone has come out here,” Sarah said.

Proceeds from the event will be donated to Duke Children’s Hospital, for care and research.
