Services set for Officer Matthews

The Wilmington police officer killed in an on-duty car crash this week, will be laid to rest in his home state of Pennsylvania.

This weekend, Officer Richard Matthews will be honored here in Wilmington. Visitation is set for this Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, at Port City Community Church on Vision Drive.

A funeral service will take place Monday at 1:00 pm, at St. Mark’s Catholic Church on Eastwood Road.

Final services and burial will be conducted in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

Officer Matthews died early Wednesday morning. He was responding as back-up for another officer, when he swerved to avoid a box in the roadway, lost control, and hit a tree.
