Seven others accuse man of sexual assault, investigators seek more

PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) – More victims have come forward in a sexual assault case in Pender County.

The Pender County Sheriff’s Office arrested Haywood Elwood Garner, 69, on October 21. At the time, he was charged with First Degree Statutory Sexual Offense, Indecent Liberties with a Child, Crimes Against Nature, Assault on a Child under 12 and Sexual Battery.

He was placed under a $525,000 bond and remains in jail.

Investigators say since Garner’s arrest, seven more victims have come forward and reported being sexually assaulted by Garner as far back as 1979.

Investigators think there may be more victims.
