CAPE FEAR REGION, NC (WWAY NEWS) — Following Tuesday’s powerful storms in the Cape Fear region, some school districts will be operating on a delay for Wednesday.

Bladen County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students and staff on Wednesday, with the option to transition to asynchronous remote learning if needed.

The school system will evaluate conditions again Wednesday morning and an updated announcement will be made by 7 a.m.

Brunswick County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay on Wednesday for students and staff.

The school system said there is a concern of trees and other debris falling onto roads overnight.

This can be dangerous for buses heading out in the morning before sunrise due to poor visibility.

Brunswick Community College and all campus locations will open at 10 a.m.

Classes will move to remote classes where possible, including the Dinah E. Gore Sports & Aquatics Complex and the Odell Williamson Auditorium.

Columbus County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students and staff on Wednesday.

The school system said this will allow buses and private vehicles to have full daylight to observe any hazards in the road.  They will monitor the situation overnight and make any changes needed for student and staff safety.

New Hanover County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students and staff on Wednesday.

Following the county’s decision, Calvary Christian School will also be on a 2 hour delay.

Pender County Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay for students and staff on Wednesday.

The school system said this will allow time for staff to assess road safety, and facility conditions as the storm passes.
Officials will continue to monitor the situation overnight and provide updates about any changes needed for student and staff safety.

Due to significant rainfall, flooding and wide-spread power outages, Whiteville City Schools will operate on a 2-hour delay Wednesday for staff and students. Buses will also operate on a 2-hour delay.

All four Classical Charter Schools will also operate on a 2-hour delay Wednesday: Whiteville, Wilmington, Leland, and Southport.
