Sex trafficking bill clears NC Senate
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — State legislators passed legislation requiring sex traffickers or pimps to register as sex offenders.
The bill, proposed by Sen. Thom Goolsby, passed the Senate in a unanimous vote Monday evening.
In a statement, Sen. Goolsby said, "Pimps should be stigmatized for the harm they do to women. They are the prime movers in the sex trade. Their days of anonymity will soon come to an end in North Carolina."
Sen. Goolsby says North Carolina is one of the country's top 10 states for sex trafficking.
The bill now heads to the House.
