Shallotte riverfront development moves forward
SHALLOTTE, NC (WWAY) — The riverfront revitalization in Shallotte is well underway with developers negotiating a development plan.
Shallotte Mayor Walt Eccard showed us artist renderings of the future riverfront with shops, restaurants and housing.
Eccard said the $75 million project will mean a lot to this community as well as future generations in Shallotte.
“It’s a delight and an honor working with the board of alderman who have been uniform in their support and hard work on this project,” said Eccard. “I think we all feel that we are part of something special and it will benefit generations of people to come.”
Another attraction Eccard hopes will draw more people to the area is the town’s new 10 acre park. Mulberry Park opened back in February. He said it’ll pair nicely with the riverfront development.
Eccard said they want Shallotte to be place people want to live and visit.
“It’ll make Shallotte a destination,” said Eccard. “It’s a 20 plus acre development. The town has invested $7 million in acquiring property for this development.”
Eccard said they expect the work to begin early next year. He said the project will be done in phases and it will take a couple years to complete each phase.
