Sharks win 4th in a row; getting closer to first place

WILMINGTON, NC (SHARKS) — Hits were plentiful on Friday night with the Wilmington Sharks (27-16, 11-5) and the Wilson Tobs (21-21, 7-6) combining for 28 hits, but it was the Sharks who would take the win by a score of 10-6.

The scoring started in just the first inning, when Alec Bohm (Wichita State) hit a RBI single to give his team the lead. He would finish with a 5-5 night. Cletis Avery (Presbyterian) brought home another with a single, but didn’t stop there. Avery went on to steal second and third, before advancing home on a wild throw down to third. Wilson got on the scoreboard in the top of the third, but the Sharks responded with three more in the bottom of the inning. Bohm homered and Madison Stokes (South Carolina) drove in two with a single.

Wilson made it tight in the middle innings, but each time they got close, the Sharks would answer. Wilson scored three in the fourth to make the score 6-4, but Wilmington scored a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-4. Again in the sixth, the Tobs would get two runs to make it 7-6, but the Sharks added a run in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to cap off the 10-6 win.

The win went to Hank Nichols (2-3). He threw five and a third innings, with 12 hits, six runs, one walk and five strikeouts. Michael DeBlieux (0-2) took the loss, pitching two and two thirds innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on five hits, four walks and one strikeout.

The Sharks take a trip to Edenton on Saturday, before getting two off days. They’ll be back in town on Tuesday to host the Tobs again, when it will be Taco Tuesday.
