Sheriff increases patrols, asks drivers to ‘slow it down’ after latest fatal wreck

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A third fatal wreck on NC 211 in Brunswick County in two weeks has the sheriff focusing on more patrols in the area.

“Folks, we have got to slow it down and avoid distractions while driving,” Sheriff John Ingram wrote on his Facebook page Saturday after the latest death. “No late arrival time or text message or anything else is worth losing your life or endangering the life of someone else.”

Ingram went on to write that his agency is committed to doing what it takes to save lives on the road.

“There will be deputies from our Special Operations Unit who will be patrolling HWY 211 from Supply to Long Beach Rd.,” Ingram wrote. “We are also erecting signs at both ends of this area warning motorist that the speed limit and aggressive driving will be strictly enforced”

Ingram also wrote that the patrols are not an attempt to try and write more tickets, but “to ensure that no more lives are lost on this stretch of road.”
