Sheriff’s Office investigating reported attacks, attempted break-ins in Ogden area
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — It’s been the topic of conversation on social media. Neighbors throughout the Ogden area are on high alert after a number of reported break-ins and attacks.
Over the last few weeks, neighbors have flooded social media, sharing reports of attempted break-ins. Some rumors reported women being attacked throughout the Ogden area.
“I currently have my son and my daughter-in-law and my grandson living here with me,” Ogden neighbor Richard Griffin said. “We’ve been kind of keeping our eyes open. I’ve got a number of cameras around the house. I’m kind of being a little extra alert.”
Some say they thought they heard someone trying to break into their home. Two reports from women say they were attacked in their own backyards.
“We do have a lot of kids around here and it’s troublesome,” neighbor Hank Montgomery said.
WWAY has spoken with the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office over the last few days. Lieutenant Jerry Brewer says they are actively investigating every call.
Some neighbors noticed their SABLE (Southeastern North Carolina Airborne Law
Enforcement) helicopter in the air Tuesday night. Brewer says they were doing a regular patrol.
He says the sheriff’s office got a report that someone thought they heard something hit their window. They did investigate, but deputies did not find anything.
For now, neighbors are being cautious.
“Extra diligent to make sure all the doors are locked,” Griffin said. “If you hear something outside or the dogs go off, don’t just run outside and take a look. You know, don’t go into a panic state, but keep your eyes open.”
Throughout their investigations, Brewer says so far, they have not found a lot of evidence. As always though, the sheriff’s office encourages everyone to be vigilant and call them if you see something suspicious.
