Shooting suspect accidentally released from jail
COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Investigators in Columbus County are looking for a shooting suspect who was accidentally released from jail last night.
Jasper Floyd was a suspect in a recent break-in and shooting, but is out of jail after a clerk court apparently made a mistake.
Assistant District Attorney Heath Nance says Floyd faced several charges in superior court that had him in jail under a $2.5 million bond. Meanwhile, he also faced charges in district court that were dismissed so they could be presented to a grand jury. Nance says a clerk apparently mistakenly dismissed all the charges against Floyd yesterday, which led to him being released from the Columbus County Jail last night.
“We are working diligently trying to locate and return this subject back to custody,” Sheriff Lewis Hatcher said in a news release late this afternoon.
New warrants have been issued for Floyd. If anyone has any information about where he is, they should call the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 642-6551.
