Shooting kills 1, wounds another on NC ball court

CHARLOTTE — Police say one man died and another person was wounded in a North Carolina basketball court shooting that began with a confrontation over an apartment break in.

The shooting happened Sunday during a pickup basketball game at a public housing complex in southwest Charlotte.

Officers said 26-year-old Amico Martin died at Carolinas Medical Center and 16-year-old Kadarus Cunningham was in serious but stable condition.

Sgt. Todd Lontz said the incident wasn’t a random shooting, but wouldn’t talk about what led to it. Neighbors said the shots were fired after the confrontation.

One relative said Kadarus was shot in the back as he ran from the gunfire.
