Sister of suspect charged in fatal Lake Gaston fire

LITTLETON, N.C. (WNCN) — The sister of a suspect in the fire that killed a Warren County pastor’s wife was arrested and charged in connection with the case, authorities confirmed.

Kristina Munn Saferite, 35, was charged with accessory after the fact to the kidnapping and death of Nancy Alford on March 9.

John and Nancy Alfords arrived at their Littleton home March 9 and found two burglars inside.

Investigators said the pair forced Nancy to drive to a nearby bank and withdraw $1,000 from an ATM.

The pair then tied up the couple inside the house and set it on fire before driving away in the Mercedes.

Nancy died in the fire while John was able to escape.

Both are convicted criminals and currently have other pending cases against them.

Kearny was a suspect in a fatal home invasion in Roanoake Rapids in January 2011.

John Alford served as pastor of Sanford Memorial Baptist Church in Brodnax, Virginia for more than a decade. His wife taught Sunday School at the church.

Sheriff Johnny Williams said the couple was “targeted for robbery.”

Saferite bonded out after her arrest in March.
