Skaters beat the heat on the ice
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Now that summer has officially begun, and temps are really warming up, everyone is finding a different way to beat the heat. One group is escaping the rays by getting on the ice.
Our own Port City Skating Club hosted the second Port City Coastal Classic Saturday at the Wilmington Ice House. More than 30 ice skaters from around our region competed, and although they vary in age, all the skaters agree the unique sport is their passion.
“Whenever I’m out there, I feel like I belong there,” skater Emily Waun said. “Everything, all my cares just go away. Everything’s perfect.”
“It’s just cool in a way that it’s different than a very cold place where you have to be outside not inside,” skater Raigan Fort said.
“It’s just really fun, and it’s a good sport to do,” skater Jessica Hoadley said. “I just love it.”
The girls encourage everyone to try skating, whether you dream of turning pro or you just want a cool alternative to our steamy summer.
