Skills showcased at the Coastal Plain League All-Star Game

Now in its 13th season the Coastal Plain League is the nation’s hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Featuring 14 teams, the league gives college players the chance to refine their skills with wooden bats during the summer months. Tuesday night they held their All-Star Game in Wilmington.

Being the host of the annual all-star game is an honor for the hometown Wilmington Sharks. It is a privilege the team does not take lightly. “It’s been ten years since we’ve had the league’s largest event. We hope we don’t have to wait another ten years to have it again,” said Wilmington Sharks owner Conor Caloia.

Three Wilmington Shark players made the all-star roster – Adam Eggemeyer, Daniel Cropper and Jesse Bosnik.

As for the game, it was clearly a pitcher’s duel. Most of the pitchers only threw an inning apiece, including Wilmington Shark Daniel Cropper who happens to also be a UNCW Seahawk.

The National All-Star squad scored first. Dylan Peetrick from the Outer Banks team knocked in Donnie Corsner from the Outer Banks team.

The 1-0 lead held up for awhile. After 9 innings it was tied at 2. It turns out both squads ran out of pitchers and the umps had to call the game after ten innings.

The final score was 2-2 in front of 3,136 fans. This was the first tie in the history of the CPL All-Star Game.
