Slumping housing market causes local business to close

A sign of the times hitting close to home: another Wilmington business closed its doors Monday.

The National Gypsum dry-wall plant off Carolina Beach Road just shut down. Sixty-three people worked at the plant.

A company spokesperson said the housing market slump diminished demand for dry-wall and company profits.

She said National Gypsum intends to re-open the plant when things pick back up.
