SmartMeters coming to Wilmington, red-light cameras staying

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Changes are coming to parking in downtown Wilmington.

You no longer have to feed the meter … with change, that is. Wilmington City Council decided to pay $300,000 for 460 SmartMeters to be installed after testing them out for almost a year. The money for the SmartMeters came out of the parking funds

The meters give you the option to pay for parking with a credit card or coins.

Officials said they eventually want all 760 meters in the city replaced.

Wilmington City Council also approved to renew the red-light camera contract, allowing the cameras to stay on the roads.
