Soles looking to life after politics

ROCKY POINT, NC (WWAY) — We’ve known for months that after 42 years in political office, Sen. R.C. Soles is calling it quits. Tuesday will mark the first Election Day in 42 years Soles could run but will not be on the ballot.

Soles has served in numerous political and community positions as an elected official. As he steps away from politics, he says he wants to spend time with his family and wants to focus on his law practice. He’s excited to start a new chapter of his life.

“To let me go to the polls 21 times and win 21 times, that means every two years I’ve had to come back the public,” Soles said. “And if I wasn’t doing something right or they thought I was off-base, they would’ve brought me home a long time ago. It’s going to be different, but I think I’m going to enjoy it.”

Soles says he plans to stay active in public life and is looking forward to building up his law firm.
