Songwriters visiting Oak Island for music inspiration this weekend

OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — If you visit Oak Island this weekend, don’t be surprised if the air is filled with music.

A group of songwriters is visiting the Cape Fear and they’re using the area’s beauty for inspiration.

“So we’re writing songs for all these people and we’re having too much fun. There’s no greater inspiration, come on, Oak Island? North Carolina? The beach? You can’t beat it for inspiration,” said Nashville songwriter Justin Peters.

The camp is put on by Peters and he’s gathered some talented colleagues to write songs that may be used in movies or performed by famous musicians.

“We’ve got such an amazing core group of writers here. They’ve written for so many different kinds of projects in the past and everybody brings their own perspective to the table,” said Tiffany Ashton, a singer and songwriter from Charlotte.

Peters says songwriters don’t get the publicity recording artists do, but they’re still important.

“If it wasn’t for music and songs, I think there’d be a lot of stressed out people out there,” Peters said. “We’re here to be a blessing to the world, to the environment, to our country, and to the citizens that we write for. We’re here to write songs for the people.”

Coming up on Monday, you’ll meet a Wilmington songwriter who is performing on American Idol this season. You can catch the story during Good Evening Wilmington.
