3 dead, 8 injured in shooting at American Fish Company in Southport

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A spokeswoman with the City of Southport confirms 3 people were killed and 8 were injured in a shooting Saturday night.

ChyAnn Ketchum, Southport’s Public Information Officer, said a boat came up to American Fish Company on Yacht Basin Drive, paused and then opened fired on the patrons before heading up the Intracoastal Waterway towards Oak Island.

Ketchum said one person of interest is being questioned.

Multiple agencies are responding, including Southport Police, Southport Fire, Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office, NC State Bureau of Investigation, ATF, and the DA’s Office.

Officials are asking members of the public to avoid the area and remain in their homes.
