Southport man facing felony charges after deadly crash

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Southport man is facing charges in connection with a crash that killed two people.

According to arrest warrants, Charles Harvey Lee, 45, was charged on Thursday with two counts of felony death by vehicle and one count of reckless driving. Warrants say Lee was driving under the influence of an impairing substance on Highway 130 on May 22. Warrants say Lee caused a crash that killed John Watson Williams, 59, and Helen Hicks Bare, 82.

Troopers said Lee didn’t stop at an intersection in the Ash area and hit another vehicle. Williams was in Lee’s vehicle, while Bare was in the vehicle Lee allegedly hit at around 10:00 p.m.

Other injuries were reported in the crash. Lee is currently in the Brunswick County Jail under a $250,000 bond.
