Southport man sentenced for stabbing wife


BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A Southport man will spend at least six years in prison after being convicted of stabbing his wife.

The Brunswick County District Attorney’s Office says Judge Ola Lewis found Edward Earl Jones, 71, guilty during a bench trial of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.

Investigators say on Nov. 11, 2015, Jones stabbed his wife multiple times in their Southport home. Prosecutors say she suffered serious injuries, including a punctured lung. The couple had been married 30 years.

Judge Lewis sentenced Jones to 6-8 years in state prison and ordered him to pay his wife restitution of $10,172.
