Southport revives historic Patriot’s Ball as part of Fourth of July Festival

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The City of Southport brought back its historic Patriot’s Ball on Saturday as part of the North Carolina Fourth of July Festival, reviving a tradition that had been absent for more than two decades.

Residents, local officials and guests dressed in patriotic attire, gowns and suits for the event at the Southport Community Center.

Tickets for the fundraiser were $200 and included live music, Fourth of July-themed decorations, cocktails and other festivities.

Festival President Hugh Fosbury said organizers revived the event to celebrate the nation’s upcoming 250th anniversary while bringing back a longtime festival tradition.

“We haven’t had this event for over 20 years, and being the 250th anniversary it’s a really special time and important time. We want to celebrate so we are bringing back some nostalgic events from yesteryear,” Fosbury said.

The Patriot’s Ball has been a signature event of the North Carolina Fourth of July Festival since the 1960s. Organizers said proceeds from the event help support the annual festival and its programming.
