Southport shares creative solutions on sensory Saturday

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — Sensory Saturday brings creative opportunities to Southport for anyone with sensory sensitivities. The North Carolina Maritime Museum at Southport has dedicated every first Saturday in 2019 to this initiative.

The museum offers a calm and quiet environment by dimming lights and limiting audio.
Each month the museum will have a feature arts and craft project. February’s event is focused on love with a ‘You light up my world’ Valentine’s card activity.

Education Curator Katy Menne says the museum’s 2019 initiative is to support under served communities.

“I know personally being a teacher that a lot kids have some trouble with loud noises or a lot of distractions,” said Menne. “We’re trying to make sure that no matter where you are or who you are, you can come and enjoy the museum.”

The museum invites anyone interested to join the fun on March 2nd from 9 AM to 11 AM for the ‘Quiet Creations’ activity.

It is located at 204 E Moore St. in Southport, NC.
