Southport woman charged after allegedly hitting Oak Island police officer with her vehicle
OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A Southport woman is facing multiple charges after the town of Oak Island says she struck an Oak Island police officer with her vehicle Saturday night while he was investigating illegally parked vehicles on the G.V. Barbee Bridge.
According to the Oak Island Police Department, Officer Raymond Holleman had stopped on the G.V. Barbee Bridge, which connects Oak Island to the mainland, to investigate several vehicles that were illegally parked along the bridge as people watched the Southport Fourth of July fireworks display.
Police said Holleman had activated the blue lights on his patrol vehicle and had exited the vehicle when Jennifer Bradshaw of Southport allegedly struck him with her car, throwing him approximately 15 feet.
Holleman suffered minor injuries and was taken to a hospital as a precaution, according to the department. He was released Sunday morning.
Bradshaw was charged with felonious serious injury by vehicle, driving while impaired, reckless driving to endanger, and several additional traffic-related offenses, police said.
She is being held at the Brunswick County Detention Center under a $30,000 secured bond.
