Southport delays sidewalk clearing to work on new rules
SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — It looks like Southport merchants will have more time to clean up the sidewalk outside their stores. The Board of Aldermen voted unanimously last night on a 45-day moratorium on sidewalk clearing. That will give the board more time to figure out how city code could be rewritten to let businesses keep some items like benches, tables, chairs and flower displays.
The board plans to discuss the issue again at a special meeting on Saturday, July 31 at 8 a.m.
