Southport is looking to expand

The city of Southport is looking to expand. Last night the Board of Alderman voted 5 to 1 to move toward annexing 80 acres.

The intended expansion includes land along North Atlantic Avenue, Jabbertown Road and across the Progress Energy Cooling Canal.

The city originally hoped to annex areas near Long Beach Road and Highway 211, but the town of Oak Island grabbed that territory first.
