Southport may be losing their maritime museum
The town of Southport may also lose one of it’s precious treasures.
The state has Southport’s Maritime Museum on the chopping block for programs to cut, in the midst of a $2 billion budget shortfall. State officials said the maritime museum costs the state more than $160,000 each year.
Southport Mayor, Sandra Spencer said, “I think it would be a terrible loss to Southport and our surrounding area. Our museum has done a tremendous job and we are so very proud of it. I am personally doing as much as I can to help it survive.”
The mayor said the city of Southport will look into ways of possibly saving the museum.
