Special summer hours for some local workers
School is out for the summer, but for people in the working world, it is business as usual.
To welcome the summer season, a couple of local companies are rewarding their employees with a treat.
Summer time is the hardest time to get out of bed and head off to work.
Some employees in Brunswick County won’t have to get out of bed at least one day during the week.
With the high price of gas, it makes sense to limit your travel as much as possible. Companies like Progress Energy and Brunswick County School Systems are doing just that.
They are implementing a four day work week starting this summer. As long as their employees get their 40 hours in Monday through Thursday, they can have Friday all to themselves.
Employees are not only happy about saving at the pump, but they are looking forward to some quality family time.
Progress Energy employee Frank Jefferson said, “It’s really nice. It will save on gas, but that’s kind of a side benefit. The big benefit is being at home on the Fridays when my kids are at home. It’s a lot more quality of life. I get to go to the beach with them. It’s a really nice benefit.”
Progress Energy just started the four day week day program last year at the request of its employees, but they do offer flex Fridays to some employees all year.
