Sporting goods store worker accidentally shot with own gun

BURLINGTON, NC (AP) — Police in Burlington say a worker at a sporting goods store was injured when he accidentally shot himself with his own gun.

The Times-News of Burlington reports a statement from police said 43-year-old Bruce Foote of Mebane suffered a gunshot wound to his upper left leg, and was on the floor at Dunham’s Sports at a Burlington mall when he was shot on Sunday.

Investigators determined that the shot came from Foote’s gun, which police said he is licensed to carry. The incident occurred in the hunting goods area, where the store’s firearms are displayed.

Foote was taken to Alamance Regional Medical Center, then flown to Duke University Medical Center, where he underwent surgery. Duke officials didn’t immediately return a call seeking an update on Foote’s condition.
