Teague’s big night leads Wake Forest past BYU 79-62

WINSTON-SALEM (AP) — Freshman Jeff Teague scored 14 of his season-high 26 points in the first half, and Wake Forest routed Brigham Young 79-62.

Fellow rookie James Johnson added 19 points for the Demon Deacons, who wrapped up their nonconference schedule without much of a sweat. Wake Forest never trailed and led by as much as 19 points early in the second half of their sixth straight victory and Atlantic Coast Conference-best 14th consecutive home win.

Chas McFarland added 11 points before fouling out in the final minute and Ishmael Smith scored 10 for Wake Forest, which shot nearly 52 percent and locked down on the Cougars’ scorers all night long.

BYU was held to 36 percent field goal shooting and committed 22 turnovers. Lee Cummard and Jimmer Fredette both scored 15 points for BYU, which was making its first trip to play Wake Forest since 1955.
